The African signature upon global finance and political arrangements has historically been a submission to ensnaring. It has been an acceptance of the instigation of a status quo that rarely benefits us. Most often it incapacitates Africa to never challenge the manners and structure of contemporary globalisation. The extreme tragedy of it all is; Africa is rarely proactive on ensuring there exists employable exit clauses from unfair arrangements with global players. Africa is probably the only continent where it is highly hoped you can come and find ubiquitous country executives who sign off and away the very building blocks of African people’s hopes; and this is done with no easy redress available. This hope, amongst some global players, dare not be quelled or repressed by us Africans!
The Art of their ‘deal’
The incidence of bargain hunting in Africa is often done in little corners of isolation where the hunting and the hunted are without influence from the whole African crowd. This therefore can be a very dark art that involves poor and unfair pricing, opaque revenue streams, poor contract settings and bindings, promotion of disaggregating the progress story, and corruption proposed by either.
Have you seen on these geographic documentaries how wildebeests are at times mentally immersed in their own run towards some not clear destination? Have you seen how the very few lions pick out the weakest whist the multitude of prey jog on despite the reduction? The nature of food chains, hey!
It is the weakest that get picked out. It is the weakness and vulnerability that predicate such operations. It is the absence of collective environmental awareness that makes it all possible. Placing each other as individuals for easy picking. But I ask, is it the mental capacity of the wildebeest or it is the wild running? Is it the location of the weak at the peripheries? What if they counted their numbers and all remained standing? Kuti vanhu vatema tinovhundaka? Vanhu vano vhunduka ka! Force field analysis I always say!
Where should we look
Amongst our leaders and amongst our colloquial narrative of the African story lies tear jerking hints that we have not been a people! The tribal names and country borders are doing their work to define us and divide us! The competition to ensure one is better than the next has been the wildebeest wild run. Who goes to the G7, who gets onto the Security Council, who is the most literate, who has more arms, who is the one who is friends with the White House occupants the most? Isolating ourselves until that search for individual strength and a differentiated profile renders the whole of Africa a grouping of individually minded weaker components.
There is no strong African system!
The lions have isolated, and with just their teeth and a roar, they live a life in which the wildebeest’s sharp horns mean s**t! A prologue to SADC’s evolution and it is necessary because…
Solidarity starts somewhere – even just as Aposematism
Solidarity when it starts does not give a matching aura of the pride of lions. It however can signal to the predators that this is not easy prey as it will fight to survive, and everyone will lose their comfort.
From the jungle to Zimbabwe…
Zimbabwe has a well-documented history that shows how it has suffered the efforts of global predators. For a while, it has been isolated, manipulated to create, expose and accentuate weaknesses. All in efforts to sink asphyxiating teeth into its throat and breathing tubes. But we have managed to raise an alarm call on the aggression of neo-colonialism and unfair application of global rules. We have cried louder we are not going to be easy! The thought to be wildebeest grouping is now going to stop running, stand with us and turn back on a hunter.
SADC turns to grunt
The strong and neighbouring amongst us have heard our cry. They will stop running and turn with their horns. The lions are not going to be eaten nor will they be impaled but…
This is new for America, and it will know this is not good- the effect of Aposematism
SADC is choosing not to be ignorant to the continued attempt to incapacitate & devour some amongst its herd. It does not like it and is alerting this is a group that cannot take lightly the picking-off of one of its own. ZIDERA and those who are proponents will not stop hunting, maybe not just yet. They will not televise it, give it prominence or a reaction. They are trying proactivity! They will however note their plans and strategies’ existential threat. There is a possibility of a growing discomfort that will connotate their relationships with every SADC member state!
They thought they were mere spectators – but players galore!
This team set-up now ushers in solidarity in its best form. Make no mistake, it shakes the mind of the proponents of arts of their deals. SADC is now playing defence when America thought it is a one-on-one with that isolated Zimbabwe of land reform. Hold on! Their minds will think…
What If…
What if they all start playing offense on land reform whilst having this solidarity in SADC? What if they do the same and revisit Marikana and then De Beers? What if the whole of this continent starts wanting to reset its trading and ownership relationship with us based on colonial era happenings? What if they then bring our biggest rivals in on better terms? Zvinhu zvinobvondoka ka!
Make no mistake, the day the thought to be dog you always chase with a flip flop out of the yard stops running, turns and snarls,…believe you me, the obvious victory belief can be obliterated to be replaced by a shaky reflection. Ko ndikarumwa nhai imi! The wildebeests’ horns will grow on you from being nothing, to thoughts of reduced hunting due to an impaled behind. Togara pasi sei?
There is always a way – the hunter thinks.
Have you ever seen the deviant members of the herd that like playing in the long grass near where lions lie in wait? The ones that cannot make out between the grass and a lion’s hide? These are the inexperienced ones that enter the belly of the beast without a run or a whimper, the ones that guarantee lions a piece of the herd nenyaya yekubva pane vamwe. The ones that affect growth of their grouping by being too close to the grouping of the lions in small numbers with careless ignorance – sitting in the chambers of congress saying we are prey, please ensure you eat and please continue eating! Those that perceive themselves as God’s deputies then think…
If I want to eat Zimbabwe, who shall I go to?
Whilst SADC is turning back and snarling on the danger, arising are groupings that state the hunting does not matter, and it is targeted at the ‘beefiest’ amongst us. Let the hunting continue so that when the beefiest are gone, the weakest become the strongest by elimination?
Attention! When they want to eat Zimbabwe, they will go to the most ambitious weaklings! Those that fail to reconcile with the idea that gandanga riya haridye derere! This strategy is being built everywhere with those that sing praises on the lion’s hunting. “Sanctions are the ambition of every Zimbabwean”. Ndoo paye pamakanzwa ndakavhunduka, stage yaivepo ikadonha!
SADC is also concomitantly dealing with these weaklings.
You see, the African signature of agreement to the hunting lion’s strategy is now in need of more scrutiny and to result in improved risk averseness. The impact of colonisation has signed documents between the Cape and Cairo we cannot easily disregard.
It was stupid signature after stupid signature!
Now some will sign up to sanctions that they hope will bring them to power were they will sign-off benefits to the external forces that facilitated. “Vakomana munoda marii?” “Fifitini bhirion!” Moyo Chirandu hezvoko zvootirwadza moyo.
The danger of more stupid signatures is with us! In bold; if we sign-off and away Africa's resources and potential now, the other side is now cleverer to make sure any Chimurenga would not reverse or void the contracts. We cannot dig ourselves deeper into entrapment in this day and age!
This is the decoy of the lion hunter but SADC is watching out as it turns back to face the predator. So as they sing praises or fake denunciations of sanctions, SADC will have gone a step up and looking at those within pulling it down. A line in the sand is being drawn and Opposition parties face an imperative of meeting the threshold of unadulterated patriotism in SADC. No more underselling the potential of this region no matter the inflicted pain for having such ambition. It will be tested as to who they will stand with and what they will stand for…
Corruption and the corrupt all excel under sanctions
There has been calls to be scientific on the quantified effects of a Sanctions regime. Correlations and causation of corruption due to sanctions need to be investigated. Findings will need to be weighted against the correlation and causation of sanctions due to the presence of corruption in the world. Re-read kusvika zvanzwisisika. Chakafukidza huori kusaziva!
Zimbabwe Sanctions must go!
Whilst Zimbabwe needs relief from unfair and unevenly employed sanctions, it is agreed it also needs, separate to the sanctions matter, to aggressively pursue its internal capacity to improve wider citizen equity. It is in the same vein that, even countries with high mortality rates due to racism, they need to improve their systems not for the sake of others or any sanction, but for their own sake. Lest SADC organises another march in solidarity with those suffering racism and lynching.
Sign up to a great cause and course. Africa’s signatures to worthy causes seem ready!
